Portugal’s 4 Day Week Group Trial
The study includes 41 Portuguese companies that shortened the working week, 21 of which coordinated the start of a six-month trial in June 2023. This trial was run in partnership with 4 Day Week Global and the Portuguese Government, with the research jointly conducted by Birkbeck, University of London, and Henley Business School.
In the first three months, more than 1,000 workers in these companies reduced their work time by 13.7%. So far, the trial saw fantastic results, with work exhaustion reduced by 19%, challenges maintaining work/life balance dropped from 46% to 8%, and a vast majority of workers would only agree to return to a 5-day week if they would receive a pay rise to do so.
